A day dedicated to trekking and the natural wonders of the Cavagrande Nature Reserve of Cassibile, which spreads over the municipalities of Avola, Noto and Syracuse, in the province of Syracuse.
The Zone A of the Nature Reserve is made up of 900 hectares and Zone B of 1,860 hectares. The Cassibile river, or ancient Greek Kakyparis, runs through the reserve, continuing - as it has done for millennia - to carve out gorges and canyons along its course. The deepest gorges reach a depth of 507 metres in the belvedere area of ancient Avola. In the valley bottom a system of little waterfalls and lakes has formed, locally called "uruvi", which offer a reinvigorating cold dip to its visitors during the summer months. You reach the little lakes along an ancient and charming pathway of steps, known as the 'Scala Cruci'.

The excursion will be a guided exploration of an area within the Cavagrande Nature Reserve where a faultline has recently been discovered - the faultline most likely to have been responsibile for the seismic activity of 2015.

Hours: The trekking will begin at 9.00 and will finish at approximately 18.00.

You are advised to wear trekking clothing and a sunhat, and to bring sun cream, a beach towel and shoes for the water.

The meeting point is at the entrance of the Cavagrande Nature Reserve.
Approximately 16.5km from the Avola exit of the A18/E45 (from here it is about 30 minutes driving in normal conditions). At the exit of the motorway continue for 1.7km, at the junction keep to the right and follow the signs for SS115/Avola and enter the SS115 for about 2km. At the roundabout, take the first exit and stay on SS115 for about 1.6km. Take the exit towards Avola, after 350m turn right and continue for about 10km on the SP4. To the right you will see the sign for the Nature Reserve, continue on the tarmacked road for about 650m and your destination is on the right.

To make a reservation a prepayment of 20% of the total is required. The outstanding balance must be paid in cash on the day.

In order to safely enjoy this trip you must be of good physical health. The excursion if not appropriate for people who are physically disabled (in the case in which they should wish to participate they must inform the organiser and it will be at the organiser's discretion to decide if the excursion may be possible for them or not).
At the time of booking please specify if there are any participants who have any allergies to insect stings, animals or plants.
In the case of adverse weather conditions which do not allow for the carrying out of the tour, you will be able to arrange another date directly with the organiser. If another date is not possible, you will be reimbursed the amount already paid.
Before departure please present to the organiser the completed and signed form of consent.
